10/29/14: Day 240: Tears

Because of Della and Charlotte’s ongoing medical issues, our return to the States will be permanent and this is what made the goodbyes so hard… Charlotte cried hard for four hours before she finally fell asleep last night. We called the U.S. Embassy and they said that Charlotte’s passport had arrived. So we bought return tickets and we managed to get on the same plane as everyone our families! At 10:30, Mom, Christina, Dan, Leanna, and I walked to the cemetery and then to the coffee house. Then the same crew went down to Ahuachapán to transfer the names on the cars. I saw Ricardo on the way and I was able say my good byes. He started crying and I couldn’t help but cry too. We arranged for him and his wife to meet us Friday while we are at the doctors. And Della is yet again, worse today than she was yesterday. We then continued on our way and met Carlos at the lawyer’s office. We found out that mom needed a special ID card to do the transfer of ownership of our car so we went and got one. Everyone waited at Ban Ban while mom managed to get the card. Then we walked to the internet office and we paid out the rest of the contract. Then we grabbed a few groceries and checked the pharmacy for the availability of mom’s medicine. We got back to the house at 2:30 and Osvaldo’s family came over at 3:30.Luz Elena gave us a going away gift and we all cried. Many words were said, prayers were said and we visited for a while. Then Mom, Leanna, and I went back down to Ahuachapán to visit Wendi, Paolo, Fernando, Eva, and Tanya. I gave Paolo Tikal and Della sent some scissors for Wendi. After Fernando prayed, I went around the room and told everyone how much I loved them. I told Paolo thank you for letting me beat him in Tikal so many times and we hugged and cried for a long time. Then Wendi insisted that we stay for dinner and it was delicious. She hand tossed Mom, Leanna and me a giant tortilla.  We ate until we were stuffed and then Della called and said we had some more guests on their way to our house. Everyone said they were going to come up and see Della Friday morning. We saw Edgardo on our way home and I said my good byes to him. César, Eliza and their baby Abigail were waiting for us when we got home. They ate spaghetti with us for dinner and then we Skyped with dad. They are all excited about the work that they will soon be starting.
