4/6/14: Day 35: Javier’s Birthday

Della, Lucky, and I got to the church building at 8:40. I set up the computer and projector while Hector and Edgardo practiced singing. Tamales were served during the break then all the teens and I went back to the house. Javier (Edgardo’s son) arrived a bit later because he had the opening prayer for the sermon. Della and I gave the lesson on Balaam and the donkey. They had quite a time trying to say the name “Balaam”. Then I unveiled the piñata donkey. Everyone was super excited (including me). None of them could hit it with the blindfold on so I let them do it without. They finally knocked it off the rope and they ripped into it on the ground. It was a really tough piñata. Then we ate cake to celebrate Javier’s 16th birthday. They don’t really seem to care for candles here but they like to get a bit of icing and try to smear it in your face. At the end of all that we had five minutes left, they all begged to play “For Sale” so we started but only got halfway through before having to quit. Lucky treated Della to the House of Coffee for lunch. Della got mushroom soup and I ate leftovers at home. When they came back they brought Eva with them. Lucky and Eva talked until 3:30. During the afternoon I read Deuteronomy and installed the new exterior lights. Second service went well. We got home at 5:15 and Bryan arrived at 5:30. We all ate banana pancakes and then Bryan and I worked on an origami Pegasus until 8:40.
