4/4/14: Day 33: Got our ride back!
Last
night Hector said that the van is finally repaired! So this morning I was
supposed to meet Hector at 6:00 AM at the gas station near his house to go to Sonsonate
to get it. The power went out for a minute at 11:45 last night which woke me up
so I reset the clock and when I looked at the phone I saw that Hector texted that
he couldn’t go to Sonsonate any more. So this morning called him at 7:00 to see
if there was any way to get the van back and he said to meet the gas station
ASAP. I rushed out and we left to get the van! When we got arrived there was a
parade marching through town that we had to wait on. Hector’s step dad went the
extra mile fixing the van; he washed it, fixed the emergency break, and the
glove compartment all for free. He demonstrated that all the repairs that I had
requested were fixed as well. I could tell that he was proud of his work and
that made me happy. The roads in Sonsonate are confusing but I managed to
navigate out on my own with only one wrong turn. I got back home at 9:30 and
worked on Spanish and Lucky translated the lesson for Sunday. At 1:30 Hector
called Della’s phone and told me to meet him at the church. My phone was out of
credit so I went to the market with Della and Lucky to recharge it and then
left them to meet Hector. Hector and I set to out for evangelism. Hector talked
to everyone that he saw. We nearly walked by two people and then he mumbled
something and turned back around and went to talk to them. He went around
telling people “We have important news! Jesus is our savior!” and then the conversation
would branch from there. Carlos joined us around 2:00. We had good
conversations with at least fifteen people today. We even met someone who spoke
English really well and wanted me to come back in 45 minutes to study with him.
But when we came back we couldn’t find him but hopefully we will soon. Then
Lucky, Della, and I drove our van to Shucutitan for the teen study. We had a
slim turnout so we decided to go visit the homes of all the teens to ask what
we could do for them. We visited four houses from 5:30 until 6:45. We then went
to Edgardo’s house to tell him that we would like to postpone having his help
for painting the house. He graciously invited us to have dinner with his family
and he said he had gone to check on our van to make sure that all the wheels
were still there every 15 minutes. We ate a wonderful meal and thanked them. We
got home about 7:45. It has been a long good day.
