I slept even better tonight than I did the first night. I woke up at the same
time so I read again while I waited for breakfast. We left immediately after to
go to the beach which was about an hour drive away. When we got there the first
thing we did was baptize the two ladies that came forward last night. Then the
lesson was given. Then we broke into groups again to have discussion. I could
see it all over his face, he had been struggling since the first night and
today was the day! A camper from my team said it was his turn to be baptized! So
we all gathered around the pools and had our third baptism for the day! Then
the entire group walked to the beach and we had a group photos. The rest of the
day was free time with non-obligatory games.
Around 2:30 there was a large commotion! We were told that a man’s son
was drowning about 200 feet down the beach. We had two lifeguards from
Gainesville that were on it lickity split. There were several minutes of
intense suspense and finally the situation was resolved. It turns out that the
father was drunk, his son had gone back to his wife but the father didn’t see.
So he assumed that his child must be in the water. The wife was found and she
explained that all were accounted for and we were all thankful that it was a
false alarm. Though I believe a life was saved because the father could have
easily drowned himself in his drunken state looking for his son that was not
even in the water. At 4:30 we all went back to the camp. Cakes were bought for
the three new baptisms. We started the evening lesson super late and I still
don’t know why. We broke into small groups for discussion around 10:20. It was
late and everyone was very tired. I got to my hammock at 11:00.
