3/5/14: Day 3: Move in day!

Today we woke up and had cereal for breakfast at 6:30. We then left and Lucky and I went to the house to wait on the furniture delivery while Della and Hector went to meet the director of the hospital about the summer missions. Lucky and I got to the house about 8:00, she hadn’t had her coffee, I told her about the House of Coffee and she said she would like to walk to it. When we got there it was closed so we walked to the park. On the way a lady stopped us and gave us a flyer for Jehovah’s Witness. The trees in the park were just as amazing as I remembered. We continued around the block and got back to the house about 8:30. We waited and waited and Lucky told me a bit about herself and how she ended up here and I told her the same. She is like a mom to everyone. I got a call from Della about 9:15 and she said the furniture people just called Hector and they would be there in about 20 minutes. At 10:00 I called Della wondering if maybe the deliverers were lost and she said that she and Hector were on their way back and while talking on the phone with her I saw the deliverers. It was amazing watching them. There were several of them but each had to carry by themselves. One carried the refrigerator; another carried the washing machine while everyone else watched. The delivery was supposedly free yesterday but today they told us it would cost extra. We then drove three blocks over to check out the new church building. It was a bit more run down but a better location and a little bigger. The roof looked like it was caving in in a couple of places and smelled a little like mold. They have people working on it for us to be able to meet there this Sunday. We then went back to Hector’s house and gave his son Noah a cake that Hector and Della had picked up earlier. Della also bought a tamale. Noah turned six years old today. Then we loaded our bins up in Hector’s car.  Then we had our first team meeting, we discussed what we would share with the church on the 14th when we will share our visions for this mission. We also discussed each of our responsibilities.
The meeting lasted from about 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM. After the meeting we drove to our house and dropped off the bins and then went to La Bomba to buy stuff for the house while Hector ran some errands. This was the first time Della and I were in Ahuachapán alone. We bought some general house items like cups, toilet seat, plunger, cloths-pins, knives, bowls, a mirror, and tons of other stuff of the sort. We had 5 bags full. At this point it was about 2:30 and we were very hungry for lunch so we walked across the street to the Pollo Campero and ate a personal pizza each. After lunch we set out for the grocery store. We bought a melon on the way. At the store we bought cleaners and lots of food. I hope it is enough to last us for a while; there were lots of items that we shouldn’t have to buy too often. Hector met us at the store and bought lots of dippers. When we got out to the car, Eva and Linda were waiting for us. We packed the car full with all our stuff and headed for our house to have the Wednesday night service. I met up with Manuel (I witnessed his baptism last summer) and I was excited to see how involved he was in the church. Church started at 5:00, Manuel said the opening prayer, Hector led singing and Carlos taught the lesson. Afterwards Manuel told us that if we ever needed honey that he was our man. He then showed me pictures of where he worked at the bee farm. I was amazed; I asked him if I could come see where he works. He said I could tomorrow, he would come to my house at 1:30 PM and we would ride the bus together. Hector told him that I had to be back by 3:00 PM to go to the school in Ataco. I am super excited about seeing the bees! Hector said that he needed a break tomorrow to spend a little time with his kids so he would leave us the morning to unpack and rest a bit too! Another amazing thing is that I am typing all of this on my computer!! It survived the fall off of the conveyer belt! The front cover is broken off and some wires came unplugged but it all works! It has been a crazy couple of days and I am very sleepy. This is the first night we will spend in our house in Ataco. We have no internet and no car but at least we do have a phone.
