Today Della has entered her 2nd Trimester! We
woke up around 6:00 and Della cooked eggs for us. I researched a bit for the
church website and answered some emails. I then studied Spanish until I decided
that I would like some pupusas from the restaurant across the street for lunch.
We kept checking for them to open and finally at 12:00 we decided that we were
so hungry that we didn’t care. Della pulled the door shut and asked if I had
the keys. I said no….. I called Hector and he said the land lord lived in San
Salvador (3 hours away) but that she would be here tomorrow and we could spend
the night at the Cortez house. I was very sad. We walked down the street and
found a pizzeria that was open. It was good, I had the meat lovers and Della
had tuna. As we were waiting for our food I prayed that God would open our
house so immediately after praying I remembered that there was a crack on one
side of the door and if we had a stick that was long enough we could push it
open since it was only locked with the latch. After lunch we went and inspected
the door and sure enough the crack was plenty big enough and I decided we
needed stick about 4 feet long. We walked across the street to a little store
and bought a broom and it did the trick! I immediately thanked God for opening
the door. I called Hector and let him know that the landlord did not have to
come and ask him if he was going to make it for evangelism to finally start
today. He said he was stuck in Ahuachapán trying to get a car part. Carlos
arrived at 2:00 but we were still waiting on the wardrobes so it was decided
that I go with Carlos and Della stay and wait for the delivery. Carlos and I
walked across Ataco to a house that we had first made contact with last summer.
We studied with her for about 30 minutes and her daughter (about 6 years old)
was very outgoing and kept interrupting to show us all her school books. They
looked like they would be useful to help me learn Spanish so I looked at them
for a bit. While we were studying Della texted me and said that the wardrobes
had arrived!!!! After studying with Carolina we walked to another contact that
we had made last summer and stood and talked with him for another 30 minutes. Then
Carlos and I went to the church building to get some bibles and the computer.
On the way we got caught in the middle of a funeral and had to wait for it to
pass. There were a lot of members from the church attending the funeral and
Carlos said a lady had passed away last night from Shucutitan. After picking up
the bibles we went to an internet café to print some pages. Then we cut across
to another store to get the pages copied. At the copier store I picked up some
paper that looked like it would be good for origami and Carlos insisted on
paying for it. Then we tried to visit a lady but her daughter said her mom would
not be home until sometime next week. So we walked across the street to another
house and started another study. It was a family of four and we talked for
about 15 minutes then Carlos plugged in the computer. We all watched a PowerPoint
called “The Fundamentals for Salvation”. The presentation had voice recordings
for each slide and lasted about an hour. While the presentation was running the
young boy (looked to be about 11) took notes diligently. At the end of the
presentation Carlos asked several review questions and the boy answered all of
them. We then all stood up and Carlos presented a bible to the two children,
then we talked to the parents while still standing for another 30 minutes. I
could tell that Carlos was getting more and more excited as he talked to them.
At 5:30 we hurried to pack up and walked as fast as we could across town back
to the church building. While on the way Carlos told me that the father of the
family at the study wanted to get baptized this Sunday! Praise God! Then Hector
called and said he was having trouble with the projectors. When we got to the
church I realized that he needed a VGA cable so I ran home to get one and walk
Della to the church for the Wednesday night services. Hector had ripped the VGA
cable that was in the ceiling down and was using it by the time Della and I got
back to the church. For services I helped lead a song in Spanish and then
several brothers prayed for different things; safety, politics, health and
blessings. After the service Hector came over and used our internet for a bit.
Then Della and I went across the street and got 8 pupusas for dinner. I then
worked on assembling the wardrobes until 10:00. I managed to get one about half
way done. I sure am thankful that the title of this day was not Locked
ourselves out day.
