7/3/14: Day 123: Tobago

I dropped Clifton by house number 1 and then picked up Austin and came back to the house. We ordered more brochures and revised the schedule. At 10:30 we went to get the lunches. They had all 30 lunches packed into one box. I grabbed the box and as I was toting it to the car I felt something wet going down my pants. The lunches were so heavy that the bottom layers were crushed and the broth was pouring out.  I had to run back to the house and change while the store repackaged the meals. We ended up losing 4 meals and running 5 minutes late but when we got to the school we had to wait 20 minutes more for their current meeting to end. There were 25 teachers plus the director so we had just enough meals. The presentation went better today than yesterday. All the teachers wanted their own private class. I believe we are going to have a great interest in this ESL program. Not one of the teachers ate their food but they all took it with them as they left. The meeting was from 11:30 to 12:30 and people around here normally don’t eat till 2:00 ish. One of teachers came up to me after the presentation and said he wanted to do an interchange and he was ready any time. He was so insistent that I am considering working with him instead of traveling to Ahuachapán for my Spanish classes. Then Austin, Della, and I went to the church and got lunch to eat at the house. Austin lived in Costa Rica for 5 years teaching this ESL program. He is passionate about it and that is why he is working with us to make it happen here. So after lunch, Della split off to meet Linda while Austin and I went to get the copies. Austin wanted to meet Della at the market where were we were going to pay for the rest of the lunches. Austin yelled his plan to Della as she was walking away while pointing to the market with a hand full of $20s. I said “Austin stop that! I thought you had some street sense…” There weren’t too many people around so we laughed it off. The market gave us a discount for the food that was lost at lunch. Then we got ice cream and folded all the brochures. When we got back to the house we ordered three new low-end laptops that will hopefully arrive in time for Central to bring for students to use at the church. I spent the rest of the afternoon working on the teen lesson for Sunday while Austin wrote syllabi for the classes. Clifton got home about 4:00 and announced that all three houses were complete! At 5:30 we joined the rest of the group for small group bible study. This is our last night with the group so we decided to go to Hector’s house and spend some more time with them. As Clifton was walking to Hector’s house, Hector helped him drop his hot sauce which shattered all over the floor. We ate chili and then celebrated the completion of the houses with ice cream cake. Afterwards, I enjoyed a game of Tabogo with Clifton, Austin, and Hanna. It was a close game; I won with 42 points and Clifton and Hanna both had 39. We got back home at 10:20 and went right to bed.
